About Nizwa

Nizwa is one of the largest cities in Oman and the capital of the interior region. Located 165 km away from Muscat, it is renowned for its wealth of cultural and ancient landmarks.

The most prominent is Nizwa fort built over a period of 12 years and located in the city center. The fort is surrounded by ancient traditional souqs (markets) where the locals trade in traditional as well as imported merchandise, from vegetables to jewelry.

Nizwa is also enclosed by a series of mountains, the Al Hajar range where upon lies the famous green mountain (Al Jabal al Akhdar). The city is also at cross roads that lead to southern Oman as well as the Dhahirah and Sharqiah regions.

Water falls of Tanuf are inspiring and the magnificent Nizwa Fort is a wonder on its own. Paved roads and facilities will take you smoothly to every single village in Nizwa.

Falaj Daris is the life maintainer of Nizwa gardens and the water supplier for all domestic purposes.

Al Hotta cave is located at the foot of Jabal Shams, in the vicinity of the Tanuf Valley in Al Hamra district. It is more than 5km long traversed by underground River. It is around 20 mins away from Nizwa and 1hr and 40 hours from Muscat.
