The Omani reds book their place in final
Date:01/14/2009
The Omanis won the Qatari challenge and made it to the final match for the third consecutive time. It was a thrilling match by all means, a win-or-lose situation with no room for a draw. One team will emerge victorious, while the other will pick their bags and walk head-high that they have made it to the semis. Oman entered the match with high morale having lead their group with 7 points and 6 goals. Qatar on the other hand were very lucky to score in the final seconds against Yemen and made it with 5 points and 2 goals. Oman's enthusiasm was obvious right from the beginning as they unleashed a flood of attacks on the Qatari defense, and in the 19th minute they were rewarded. A long pass from the Omani defense line lands in the 6-yard box of the Qatari team and received smoothly by top goal-scorer Hassan Rabei' who hurled it with full speed to the Qatari net. The Qataris could not believe that they were watching the score board showing 1:0 to Oman while the Omani fans rocked the stadium. The match continued the way it started with the Omanis pushing forward and the Qataris waiting for an opening. Imad Al Hosni almost made the score 2:0 in the last minute of the first half but his shot missed its target. The second half was different though. The Qataris realized that without a goal they won't make it, so they began pressurizing the Omani defense but Al Habsi made sure his net remained untouched. In the final minutes the Qatari dominated the play while the Omani players were clearing the ball aimlessly trying desperately to maintain the score. After 3 minutes of injury time, the referee announced the end of the match and the Omani reds were given their ticket to the final.
